Can You Get A Onewheel Wet?

There is no doubt that the OneWheel is an amazing board. It can take you where you require and is perfect for those who love adventure, but for most people it is an investment, and with such a hefty price tag, there’s no doubt you want to know how to care for your OneWheel. A common question amongst many riders is: Can you get a OneWheel wet?

Before you hop on your board for a ride in the rain or at the beach, or you want to cross a shallow stream along a path, there are a few things to keep in mind, especially if there’s a risk of your OneWheel getting wet.

Getting A OneWheel Wet

OneWheels are not waterproof; they are said to be ‘water-resistant.’ While Future Motion advises a little amount of water should be fine, if any moisture gets into the board it can cause major internal damage.

A OneWheel is an electrical device. Most of us know that electricity and water do not mix well, and when it comes to a OneWheel this is still the case. Riding your board in light rainfall or on damp sidewalks should be fine, but you should avoid anything more severe.

Water damage is not covered by the OneWheel warranty. So, if you decide to ride your board in the snow or a rain storm, resulting in it getting wet, just know you will need to foot any potential repairs.

This goes without saying that you should also never submerge your Onewheel and try to avoid riding it near deep water.

If you plan to ride in the rain or through puddles, there are certain things you can do to minimize potential damage, but do so at your own risk. Water can cause havoc on the inner workings of a OneWheel and could be a costly mistake for a few minutes of riding fun.

What Should You Do If Your OneWheel Gets Wet?

Let’s say you got caught in the rain, or accidentally spilled a drink on your board, which has you now questioning ‘can you get a OneWheel wet?’

Try not to worry, we know OneWheels are water-resistant to an extent and there are certain things you can do to try and minimize any damage.

Wait for at least 24 hours before charging your board. This is to ensure your board has had time to dry out. You should also always ensure the charging port is dry before plugging it in.

Do not turn your OneWheel on when wet and try to dry the board the best you can. Wiping down your board or using a can of compressed air, which helps to dry small hard-to-reach areas, can help avoid water potentially seeping into your OneWheel.

Covering your charging port can help reduce the risk of water getting into the board. There are rubber plugs you can purchase that slot into the charging port, this can help ease your worries, but is more of a preventive measure rather than a solution.

So, Can You Get A OneWheel Wet?

Each OneWheel rider will have a different experience and opinion on this matter.

Ultimately, you should avoid getting your OneWheel wet; the potential risks are not worth it. If you are out riding and get caught in a light drizzle, chances are you’ll be fine, but if it’s raining torrentially outside, you are better off leaving your board at home.

Of course, you should always avoid submerging your board in water. A OneWheel is water-resistant, not waterproof! What do you think, can you get a OneWheel wet? Have you ever had to deal with water damage? Let us know in the comments below!
