Onewheel Battery Life: How Long Should It Last?

Onewheel Battery Life, No machine is fun with short battery life. A Onewheel can be quite expensive, and this can leave you wondering if it is worth it. Imagine spending so much money, and still not being able to have as much fun as you want because of the short battery lifespan! One of the most important considerations when choosing a hoverboard (or any device for that matter) is the battery life. A prolonged Onewheel battery life serves better.

How long does a Onewheel Battery last?

The most frequently replaced components of a Onewheel, are the tires and the batteries. A Onewheel can last for anywhere from 3 to 5 years, depending on several factors. Let us look at some of these factors using the Onewheel + XR as a case study;

Charge frequencyUsed for 3 miles dailyUsed for 10 miles daily
Single chargeAbout 5-6 daysAbout 2 days
Battery life expectancy after about 500 charges5-8 years3-4 years

Usually, Onewheel boards use Lithium-ion batteries, and these batteries usually last for approximately 500-1000 charges.

It is important to know that all these numbers are only an approximate value, and subject to change depending on the mode of maintenance, rider’s weight, riding surfaces, terrains, styles of riding, and other factors.

It takes about 40-60 minutes to fully charge the Onewheel + XR and when fully charged, it can go up to 12-18 miles.

Maintaining a Onewheel battery lifespan

One of the key factors that can influence the lifespan of a Onewheel battery is maintenance. Certain practices will keep it stronger and improve its health. Normally, Lithium-ion batteries are known for their strength and durability, so it will be very difficult for one to develop an issue. Here are some things you can do to improve the lifespan of your Onewheel battery;

  • Store your boards indoors: Boards are designed to be stored in mild room temperatures, exposing them to anything other than that will set them up for early destruction. If your Onewheel board is exposed to harsh conditions, either extremely cold or hot weather, it can reduce its lifespan by degrading the battery.
  • Do not overcharge or undercharge your board: Overcharging your board can weaken the battery cells, and on the other hand, leaving your battery empty can also keep it in a bad condition. If you do not use your board regularly, ensure that you keep it charged. A good tip is to ensure that it does not go below 20% and also ensure it does not charge beyond 90%. This way you are not letting the battery cells run through a full cycle, and you can prolong its lifespan.
  • Reduce your use of it: It is advisable to reduce the use of the board if you want it to last longer, especially for riders with a lot of weight, or that use it to perform dangerous riding styles. Overusing it this way will wear it out faster.
  • Use the app: The Onewheel App is one excellent way of keeping in touch with your board’s health. This app provides useful information like the speed, distance traveled, and battery life of the machine. It also lets you connect with other Onerwheel riders around. With the app, you can have better control of your ride.

You can decide to replace your Onewheel battery if it becomes faulty. There are several types of Onewheel batteries available. Here are some of them;

Buying a suitable battery for your machine is very important. Your Onewheel battery life will be extended if intentional efforts are made to achieve this.
